Press Release from Buckinghamshire Council 15 July 2022
Extreme temperatures and impact on waste collection services With Buckinghamshire braced for extremely hot weather during the weekend and at the start of next week, Buckinghamshire Council wants residents to be aware of potential impact to council services.
The forecast for Monday and Tuesday (18 and 19 July) currently predicts temperatures to be around 35-37c, potentially making it unsafe for waste collection crews to carry out their work during the hottest part of the day.
In line with other local authorities and health and safety guidance, we will be starting collection rounds earlier all week to get more done before the hottest part of the day. It also means some rounds may have to finish early, before completion. This is because the bin crews have to wear heavy duty protective clothing and their work is very physical meaning it could pose a risk to health in very hot weather.
All waste collections will start at 6am for the whole of next week (Mon 18 – Fri 22 July inc) so please leave your bins out no later than 6am each day for the whole week or put them out the night before.
If your bin isn’t emptied on your normal collection day please leave it out as we may be running slightly behind due to the heat.
Councillor Gareth Williams is Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change. He said:
“Obviously we don’t want bins being left on hot days in an ideal world, but we have to put the safety of our crews first and if it gets too hot for them to work, we may fall slightly behind our usual schedule. We hope to minimise this by starting early every day next week (w/c Mon 18 July). If your bin is not collected when expected, we will pick it up at the earliest opportunity.
It’s pleasing to see cooler temperatures forecast further into next week so we hope any delays are kept to an absolute minimum – and we will do our best to catch up as quickly as possible if collections are held up. I’m sure residents appreciate the need to put the health and wellbeing of our crews first and we thank them for their patience and understanding.”

1st JUNE 2022 PRESS RELEASE
- WORK TO BEGIN ON IMPROVING THE LARGE LAKE FOOTPATHS IN WATERMEAD
Building work is due to commence to create a new raised walkway and install new and improved paths for all residents and visitors to Watermead.
This project is a step closer now and works are due to commence 6th June 2022 and will take approximately ten weeks (weather permitting). During the period of works access to the large lake path will be closed to the general public.
The project, which is being funded by a £42,205.00 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, £40,712.96 from Buckinghamshire Council Community Board and £20,000 from Parish Council reserves, will provide a hard standing/hard wearing path and the installation of a raised walkway in an area that is subject to flooding.
Cllr Sue Severn, Chairman of Watermead Parish Council, is excited that the project is starting to take shape.
She says: “It’s great to see our vision for this vital community facility moving closer to reality. We are extremely grateful for the funding FCC Communities Foundation & Buckinghamshire Council has given to us and we’re looking forward to opening to the public.”
FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Watermead Photo Competition 2021
WATERMEAD PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION 2021
Judges Report
Thankyou to everyone for entering this year’s photo competition. Although the number of entries was down from previous years, the standard was very high making choosing winners a difficult task.
Unfortunately, our experienced external Judge was not available this year. So, I did the judging which is a very personal matter and there is no right or wrong. The photos were all passed to me bearing numbers only so that I was not aware of who had entered them until I announced my decision.
BEAUTIFUL WATERMEAD.
We are lucky to live in such a lovely environment and our resident swans were again popular subjects.
Winner is Dan Forder for his clever shot of 3 cygnets
Highly Commended are a lovely golden misty view of the Lake also by Dan Forder
And another atmospheric photograph of swans by Damon Mitchell.
OPEN CATEGORY
Winner: Robert Fearnley for his beautiful portrait of a resting fox
Highly Commended:
John Mitchell’s portrait of 3 men at a bar is interesting and beautifully lit showing that it isn’t always necessary to see the subject’s face.
Dan Forder’s Macro shot is beautifully sharp and shows the intricate detail of this Dragon Fly.
PEOPLE AND EVENTS
This category attracted the fewest entries perhaps because Covid has restricted everyone’s ability to get out and attend events.
Winner: James Bates: This photograph sums up a lovely summer evening on Watermead with a colourful balloon preparing to take off into a clear blue sky.
Highly Commended
Dan Forder has again scored with his with his lifelike close-up shot of a model Torpedo Boat cutting through the ”waves“ on the lake.
OVERALL WINNER
The overall Winner this year is Dan Forder, who scored highly in all three categories, with his portrait of the 3 cygnets being the best.

Watermead Neighbourhood Plan
Watermead Parish Council is working with residents and stakeholders on developing a Neighbourhood Plan for Watermead. You may well have read about it in Village View or on social media.
Watermead is already a fantastic place to live, and we want to make sure that we continue to maintain it, and where possible improve it, in the ways that most benefit the people who live and work here, both now and in future. Once the current restrictions on movement are eased we hope to have open events in the Village Hall or Hall garden, but in the meantime we will be asking for your feedback through a series of short questionnaires.
